Simultaneous interpretation booths may be built-in or moveable. Not only congress halls, but also many public and some private institutions have auditoria equipped with one or more interpreting booths. These are usually (and should always be) designed according to ISO standards, to guarantee optimum visibility and soundproofing and meet minimum space requirements. These built-in booths are usually set to one side of the meeting room to allow the interpreters to be able to see the speakers and audience and follow events easily. However, when meetings are held in hotels or company offices that do not have their own equipment, moveable booths are installed. AICE members have interpreted with all the most prestigious companies in this area, so we know how they work and can help you to find the right equipment for your needs.
The "interpreter’s briefcase" is a sound device that enables the interpreter to whisper the simultaneous translation of a speech into a microphone whilst listening in the audience. The people requiring the interpretation listen through headsets with receivers. The system can be used for factory visits or trips to open-air sites, as well as for small meetings where the cost or bulk of all-comprehensive interpreting equipment might be unfeasible.
